Summer Glow

Updated: Nov 11, 2020

I loooooooooove skincare! I enjoy makeup as well but I don't really wear it often. Now that doesn't mean I don't have stacks of palettes, bronzers and lipsticks galore...because I like to experiment with new products and do my friends' makeup when we are going out. But on a day to day basis I am a minimalist when it comes to everyday application, if any.

Growing up my mom taught me if you don't need it why wear it. This was also a time where teens wore sparkly graphic tees and chokers, not the crop top wearing, full face of makeup 13 going on 24 looking teens these days... like where did the awkward phase go? I thought it was some kinda right of passage. And yes, she's my mom so of course she thinks I'm the prettiest girl on the planet (what mother doesn't), but I don't think that's all she meant. What I think she meant is if I take care of my skin then I won't need to cover it up. I do understand that everyone has different skin types: oily, dry, redness, acne prone etc.... I was blessed with good genes and other than the occasional hormonal breakout I didn't really suffer from other skin issues. I focused on basic skincare 101 since middle school.

Wash your face morning and night

Mositurize

SPF

Eye cream

This foundation stuck with me throughout high school, college and now as an adult. I've added in products along the way but I still stick to the basics.

Summer time is my favorite.... for many reasons but especially because of the sun-kissed dewy skin look. It took me until my college years until I realized how important it is to apply SPF on my skin. Limiting direct sun exposure will benefit my skin in the long run, however using a daily sunscreen will still allow me to enjoy soaking up the sun all summer long.

Self tanners have grown in popularity over the last several years and there are plenty of products you can use to give yourself the sun-kissed glow without exposing your skin to the sun for hours.

My go-to summer skincare products:

Face SPF

Tinted moisturizer with SPF

Body sunscreen

Glow hour - cools hydrates and illuminates

Face mist - refreshing midday pick me up .... (Another option)

Overnight mask - dry summer skin needs extra TLC and what better than to multi task and treat it while you sleep

Charcoal mask or cleanser - combats clogged pores from sweating in the heat

Brightening Serum & Dark Spot Corrector - helps prevent hyperpigmentation, improve the appearance of fine lines, and can help with collagen production.

Eye cream - as a new mama anything with "brightening" in the description speaks to my heart.... but who could really turn down an under eye brightener..

Exfoliators for body & face - perfect to scrub before self tanner applications

My go-to summer makeup products:

Primer: primer is super important for blocking the rest of your products from seeping into your pores

Face Coverage

Bold Lip: pops with a tan

Bronzer: apply in a 3/E shape from forehead to cheekbone and down to the chin for a stunning sun-kissed look

Blush: apply a little to the tip of your nose for that sun-kissed look (usually the first place to get sun is your nose so a little redness/ rosie coloring looks natural)

Translucent Powder: helps minimize the shine from face oil and keeps make up from wearing away

Self Tanners

General Tips:

  1. Non-comedogenic products: basically fancy beauty talk for "non-pore clogging" which is perfect for summer time.

  2. Hydration: hydrate from the inside out! I love drinking my liquidiv packets daily! They are sooooo good and one packet hydrates as much as 3 bottles of water. Toss them in your purse and pop it in some water on the go. And if you do happen to get a sunburn, hydrating will help heal you faster. **use code: crunch_brunch_repeat for 25% off + free shipping **

  3. Short showers: over showering can cause over drying of the skin and during the summer can lead to summer eczema

  4. Shade: cause lets be honest... other than some good ole SPF this is the next best thing for our skin. I'm not saying wear long sleeves and sit in a cave like a hermit, but accessorize with a cute wide brimmed hat and give your skin a little break from the midday sun.
